Re: Help for Animals in Shelters across SA desperately needed.
I am working in animal rescue. It doesn't pay a salary, so they/we rely totally on Donations. It's all volunteer work.
The shelters are all full to capacity. Everyday I place, share and post hundreds of dogs who are strays, dumped on sides of roads, surrendered, have been violently abused, or removed from owners who simply can't take care of animals. Some badly maimed and usually have to be PTS. And moms who have been dumped with their newborn pups.
But the biggest issue is economic. People are losing jobs and homes and are forced to leave country or move to flats or rent where owner won't allow dogs.
We are in a crisis of epidemic proportions. Mass euthanasia's every week on healthy young dogs. SPCA's are closing down. These dogs sleep on Cement floors in cages. It's really cold. Most have injuries and are sick.
I'm reaching out to you and anyone I can think of or that you could suggest.
I need donations, as myself and 3 other ladies are tackling the mammoth task of trying to make as many beds and blankets as we physically can for shelters in Cape and surrounds.
New Limits Apparel has generously donated over 130m of a fine cotton twill which will be used to make mattress/bed cover.
Fabrics and materials urgently needed:.
Warm fabrics like Polar fleece, mock sheepskin, fo fur, or anything warm enough for blankets and covers for the beds mattress. Old rolls lying around in colours or prints that can't be sold? Thick Batting, foam or foam chips or foam. Preferably thick batting.
I have received a generous donation from New Limits for over 130m cotton twill which I'm using to make mattress covers, but urgently needs stuffing and warm fabrics mentioned above. Anything will will help. Even fabric off cuts and old fabric hangers - to stuff beds.
If you have anything to donate. Or know anyone that would. Please help. It's already cold and as I said shelters are filled to max and animals are battling already due to cold weather.
Hope you can help in some way. This is a plea. Any donations will be much appreciated and will help these animals through cold winter months.
