| About us | Given the scarce terrestrial resources of the country, fishing and fish production has always been one of its main economic activities. The maldivian exclusive economic zone is endowed with an abundance of inshore and offshore marine resources. The main fishery of the Maldives is pole and line tuna fishing. Major target species include skipjack (katsuwonus pelamis) and juvenile yellow fin tuna (thunnus albacares). Over the last two decades, the fisheries industry has diversified. Large yellowfin, bigeye tuna and a variety of the export oriented reef fish, fishery have developed significantly over the past years. In terms of value, the fisheries sector has shown an annual increase over the past 10 years from about us$18.69 million in 1989 to us$23.5 million in 1998. This is equivalent to an average annual growth rate of about 2.8 percent. Fish catch has increased substantially over the past decade. The export of fish and fish products has increased from 80,714 to 122,450 metric tons between 1991 and 2001 with an average increase of five percent per annum. We are looking for interested investors to join with our company or to do business with our company in exporting fresh and frozen yellow fin tuna and other varieties of fish such as marlin, sward fish, mahi mahi, shark and reef fish from Maldives.
