| About us | We were founded in 1923, when M. J. Osborn recognized a need for an offering that combined premium products and service to the hospitality industry. Over the years, we expanded our horizons to serve restaurants, hospitals, food and beverage plants, laundries, schools, retail and commercial properties, and beyond. In the United States, we currently implement our Circle the Customer strategy with value-added cleaning, sanitation and service solutions through 10 complementary units: Institutional, Food & Beverage, Pest Elimination, Kay, Professional Products, Healthcare, GCS Service, Textile Care, Vehicle Care and Water Care Services. Each of these businesses is dedicated to providing our customers with the highest-quality, most effective products, systems and services. Circling the Globe, we have direct operations in nearly 70 countries and employ more than 21,000 associates. In addition, Ecolab reaches customers in more than 100 other countries through distributors, licensees and export operations. To meet the global demand for our products, we operate state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facilities worldwide. Ecolab's core Institutional and Food & Beverage offerings are available in all markets. In addition, we are globally expanding the full array of services offered in the United States, as demand dictates. Many international offerings are essentially the same as their U. S. Counterparts, though tailored as necessary to meet unique local and regional needs.
