Mendeleyev who at that time headed the Chamber of Measures and Weights of the Russian Empire experimentally determined the optimal ratio of alcohol and water 40:60. The samples of obtained vodka were presented for tasting to the Academic Council, resulting in a decree that gave 40% vodka its name Mernaya Standard. Such vodka was delivered to the Imperial Court. In 1931, Mernaya was banned by Bolsheviks as a rudiment of Tsarism. Products of Mernaya and Vinodel trade marks have won awards and medals at international exhibitions in Russia and Germany. Now, Mernaya vodkas and Vinodel wines are delivered to Russia, Israel, Germany, Armenia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia; export contracts have been signed with Italy, Hungary, and Poland.
