M. Chapoutier
About us | We are a pioneer in bio dynamic farming and we are producing some of the most exquisite wines in france and in the world(mrrobert parker, quoted our wines 12 times at 100/100 including 3 consecutive times with the hermitage red). Our winery has been awarded by the wines and spirits magazine(usa)as the best winery in the world,8 times during the past 10 years(in1991,1992,1993,1995,1996,1997,1998,1999). From the time of its establishment, succeeding generations have contributed to the making of one of the rhone valley's finest wine producing domains. Over the years the vineyards extended, bringing new varieties of grapes into the heart of the best appellation terroirs to produce such wines as hermitage, crozes hermitage, saint joseph, cote rotie, condrieu, chateauneuf du pape, banyuls, coteaux d'aix, ard che and tricastin. 'maison m. Chapoutier' today owns the largest hermitage vineyards. As well as being the owners of almost 400 acres of vineyards, m. Chapoutier also supervises the vinification processes and in some cases, the cultivation, of other appellation wines commercialised by the company ; cornas, gigondas, muscat de beaumes de venise, muscat de rivesalt, cotes du rhone, tavel, cotes du ventoux and vin de pays d'oc. Michel chapoutier has been handling the company's destiny since 1990. Remaining faithful to traditional, family methods and to an independent position while introducing a spirit of challenge and determination he has perpetuated his firm belief in the quality of his lands. Modernisation, the acquisition of new vineyards in france and further afield, are wagers that have been brought off to credit of michel and confirmed by his excellent commercial results. However, the heart of the 'revolution' undertaken by michel resides in the adoption of biodynamic farming which has brought about a complete change in the approach to wine-growing. His aim is to put 21st century farming into practice and by doing so, to enable the land to develop its intrinsic qualities. Care is taken to respect natural cycles and the ecological balance of the land which is considered as a true source of life that has to be preserved. All the vineyards cultivated by 'maison m. Chapoutier' are farmed under biodynamic agriculture. Generosity and inventiveness have also stimulated michel into taking, some original initiatives such as double printing the labels on the whole range of their wines in braille ; a world first. Furthermore, the company is the founder of the 'm. Chapoutier wines and health association', whose aim is to sensitise public opinion to the problems of bone marrow donation through a charity event: 'vendanges du coeur'(harvestingfor charity). A passion for wine growing and for wines, awareness of the needs to respect the land, the desire to develop the diversity of the soil and enhance the specific characteristics of their wines are all considerations which LED m. Chapoutier to the choice of biodynamic agriculture. Only by using theses methods can one achieve wines with authentic character while completely respecting: - the land: Through lower than average yields, rigorous pruning and selection and the use of old vines. - the biotope: Through organic farming which excludes the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers. - safe-guarding: Through the use of traditional vinification methods. - indigenous yeasts and no low temperature fermentation. Living soil: Finally come harvest time and the result of 12 months work on the vines. All the grapes are harvested by hand. Traditional vinification: |
