M. T. Group, a leading private sector business conglomerate of the country, commenced its business in 1990 in the name and style of moni trade international. Initially, it supplied stationary, purchased locally to save government offices in 1994, the group started importing electronics and audio tapes from hong kong and China. In 1997, it started importing cosmetics from Malaysia and south korea, and established another company, m-direct(south asia) ltd. During 1997, M. T. Group also started importing computer accessories, monitors, cartidges, fuel dispensers and secondary steel from south korea, Taiwan, China, Czech republic and Romania. Since its inception the company has diver sited and expanded its business, resulting in the transition of moni trade international to M. T. Group. In 1998, the group took a set up for a laundry soap industry on its own land at bscic industrial area, sherpur in the name of M. T. Laundry soap industry and began the production in 1999.
