Objective rubber plantation sector is dominated by small growers, who account for about 89% of the production and 89% of the area in this country. There are about one million small holders, whose average holding size is around 0.50hectre. the rubber board has been promoting voluntary organizations of small holders by organizing them into self-help groups called rubber producers societies (rpss). This is to overcome the inherent weakness in this sector as a result of preponderance of smallholdings and small farming size. Companies has been promoted as a second stage of development of rpss, considering the economies of scales required for processing value added forms of rubber. The company, in association with these rpss has adopted the concept of agribusiness consortium.
