| About us | Development of k 999 dog food In early 2002 the company was able to partner with a domestic agri-business company for the development of a locally manufactured line of food for dogs. With assistance from the bureau of animal industry (bai) and veterinary consultants from pfizer, this resulted in the production of k-999 dry dog food. It comes in two variants and is available in 15 and 20 kilo bags. Shelf life is from 6 months to 1 year. In august 2002, k-999 was granted its license by the bai and pre was formally registered with the dti as its exclusive distributor in metro Manila. Pres clients include veterinary clinics and dealers of pet supplies. Its main competitors are importers master foods INC. (distributor of pedigree) and nestle (exclusive distributor of hi-pro and alpo). Pres competitiveness is based on the quality of its products which are comparable to its competitors, but primarily its pricing which is around 30% less than its competitors. At present, production output is being limited to around 20% of its rated plant capacity of 1,000 bags per day due to depressed local market conditions. On the other hand, market feedback from the start of operations have been very encouraging: Pres successful introduction of the product has resulted in sales of over php 1.2 million in its initial year of operations and despite an economic slowdown, a growth of 33% to php 1.6 million in 2004, without any significant derogatory reactions to the product which affected other more-established and imported brands. Therefore with confidence in a proven product, quality-wise and cost-wise, pre intends to explore export opportunities. Company outlook As pre has helped in the development of the local market for imported pet food, it now wants to do the reverse, development of overseas markets, initially in the asean area, for locally-developed goods. Therefore from being a distributor of imported goods, pre seeks to be an exporter of locally produced, but quality, goods. |
