About us | In the beginning, SMI offered one product line; the remanufactured toner cartridge for the Hewlett Packard laser printers. Having recently hit the corporate market in force in 1990, customers were looking for a less expensive alternative to laser printing than purchasing the HP Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) toner cartridges. The decision was made that SMI would distinguish themselves from competitors by taking extensive quality control measures to help ensure product performance, and today is still recognized as a leader in the industry. Furthering the effort at providing value-added services, SMI developed a fully staffed Hewlett Packard authorized service department. The idea behind developing the department was that SMI would be able to complete the full circle of Hewlett Packard laser printer needs for the corporate office place. This circle includes the sale of the HP printer hardware, offering the full line of laser cartridge supplies, performing manufacturer warranty work, and offering service repair after warranty expiration. Customers interested in expanding their business relationship with SMI helped catapult the companies product offering into the image processing industry. Partnering with wholesalers who market consumable supplies for office machinery, SMI became a major player for the full line of supplies for copiers, faxes, printers and media storage for computer network servers. Source Managements dedication to excellence in this market segment gave the company the distinction of becoming a member of the INC 500 in 1997. In 1998 SMI was recognized as one of Colorados' Top 200 largest privately held companies by Colorado Biz Magazine. Late in 1998, SMI made the strategic decision to incorporate the full line of office supply items to the list of offerings. This decision has helped to further the goal of consolidating purchasing efforts for SMI customers. By leveraging relationships with existing customers, SMI soon became a strong player in the office supply industry. Aggressive growth plans, creative product / service packages, and the most advanced online ordering system played major roles in creating a flexible and explosive organization dedicated equally to our employees and valued customers. |
