Swifts Limited
About us | Marathe Udyog Bhavan in Mumbai an imposing three-storied structure, owned by the Marathe Group, houses the Registered Office of the company. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai recognized the contribution made by founders of the company for development of the printing industry in India. The road in front of the Marathe Udyog Bhavan was thus named Appasaheb Marathe Marg in 1972 The Pioneering work done by the late Mr. Appasaheb Marathe was continued and expanded multifold by his son late Mr. Suresh Marathe. In 1973, he developed the first of Swifts Offset machines - Swifts 150 EX revolutionizing the offset printing industry in India. This work was considered so pioneering that in 1979, the Government of India honoured the company by awarding Swifts the prestigious Presidents Import Substitution Award. Swifts not only helped conserve Indias precious Foreign Exchange but also, by allowing people in remote parts of India to buy its reasonably priced machines, opened new employment opportunities in those regions. Under the leadership of Mr. Suresh Marathe the company grew by leaps and bounds by expanding its range of innovative products. This growth led to shifting the majority of the manufacturing activities to its ultra modern manufacturing set up in Nashik, Maharashtra - a major industrial town, about 170 kms from Mumbai. Today, Swifts employs about 150 people directly or indirectly. It has a sophisticated Research, Design and Development Center. The manufacturing process for the critical machine parts uses modern CNC machines. Major manufacturing activity is carried out at the Nashik plant - about 30,000 sq. ft. of factory shed in over 160,000 sq. ft. of lush green surroundings, providing the workers relaxation during their breaks from work. Along with the expansion of the operations, the dealer base also expanded in India and in the neighboring countries. The company appointed new dealers in all states of India and increased the reach of the product to otherwise inaccessible regions. The increased manufacturing and appointments of new dealers for sales and service has taken the total installation base to over 6500 machines. Today, Swifts manufactures and markets about 9 different Offset machines to suit the diverse needs of its customers. It also markets a range of digital pre-press products like the High Resolution Graphic Laser Printers and Digital Duplicators. Swifts customers include Government offices, large printing establishments, small job shops and new entrepreneurs. Swifts currently collaborates with two UK and USA based companies. Swifts has a global manufacturing and marketing license for the world famous Multilith 1250 printing machine, earlier manufactured by the A.M.Multigraphics of USA. The fact that over 300,000 Multilith 1250 are in operation today is a testimonial to the immense popularity of this machine. Swifts also manufactures and markets Rotaprint Thompson Crown 52, one of the most popular printing machines in Europe, under a license from PPS Rotaprint Ltd., UK. |
