Expanded metal grating is also available in Aluminum & Stainless Steel.
Expanded metal mesh or grating is the most practical and economical way to assure strength, safety, and a non-skid surface. Expanded metal grating is ideal for use on plant runways, catwalks, and working platforms as it is easily cut into irregular shapes and installed quickly by welding or bolting.
Expanded metal gratings are used on shallow wetland or sandy soils. They also can be used on roads that don’t have high spots. As skidding causes the grating to move, this option is best limited to hauling and forwarding.
Expanded metal grating are usually built in sections that are about 4 feet by 10 feet. We install expanded metal grating by hand-placing the grating sections in each wheel path.
Expanded steel grating mainly has two types: light type and heavy type. Each sheet is produced from low carbon steel plates up to 5/16" thick. The junctions of the strand and bond form a ridged surface for improved tractions. Grating is formed like a truss so that every inter-connecting strand acts as a structural member distributing the load stress in several directions across the supporting frame. The angular position of the strand and the bond makes the expanded metal grating stronger in deflection than steel plate material in original form. Typical applications include long length or catwalk grating - usually in 10 ft. lengths by 2 or 3 ft. widths. It is also ideal for flooring, platforms and stair treads, where principal use is for light storage and foot traffic.
Features:
1. Expanded steel grating offers many advantages over bar grating. It is made of one continuous piece of material yielding a greater strength to weight ratio.
2. There are no welded parts and the surface is naturally skid proof without further processing.
3. The pattern and openings provides a wider range of load capacity gratings to meet your exact requirements giving greater economy to your project.
4. Expanded steel grating is the most practical and economical way to assure strength, safety and a
non-skid surface.
5. It is easily cut into irregular shapes and can be installed quickly by welding or bolting.
Features and advantages:
Expanded metal grating is lightweight, durable, inexpensive and provides some traction. We don't need special equipment or tools to install the gratings. It is the ideal material for industrial walkways and stair treads. It has safer tread surface and permits maximum passage of light and air.
But grating tends to bend to confirm to any ruts that many develop. Equipment may be needed to remove grating if it becomes covered by soil.
Expanded metal grating provides secure footing for walkways, catwalks, floors, platforms, and stair treads. Light in weight. High in strength. Low in cost. Heavy duty grating prevents wasteful over design. Savings of up to 50% over other steel grating alternatives are not uncommon. Cutting and fitting can easily be done by one or two people with the proper cutting and welding equipment.
