Sony Vaio VGN-TX1XP: Despite an integrated optical drive, this slim, sleek device tips the scales at a mere 2.75 lbs (1.26 kg), including battery.
With dimensions of 10.7 x 7.7 x 0.75" (272 x 195 x 19 mm), the Vaio VGN-TX1XP is the smallest and lightest ultraportable laptop PC that includes a built-in optical drive. In giving these dimensions, we should point out that the height of the device increases somewhat from front to back: it starts out at 0.75" (19 mm) at the front edge of the case, and gradually increases to 1.22" (31 mm) at the rear edge, making the case somewhat wedge-shaped.
With a black exterior and a silver keyboard deck, the Vaio VGN-TX1XP makes an elegant impression.
To create such a small footprint possible for the TX series, Sony found it necessary to make the motherboard as small as possible - it looks to be about the size of a typical graphics card - and to populate it with as many components as would fit. Sony also went with the smallest possible form factors for other components as well, such as the hard disk.
The small dimensions of the motherboard help enable construction of such a small laptop (10.7 x 7.7" or 272 x 195 mm).
