| About us | Most furniture designs from Asia are unoriginal. Copies of copies of copies. Nothing new has surfaced for a very long time. In particular, rattan furniture, and by extension any furniture made of vines, has become out fashioned. Agoda brings a totally new perspective to the art of furniture making. Shedding its ethnic image, Asia, as understood by agoda, is now resolutely part of modernity. Through his radical and surprising designs, the designer of agoda, tom howells, a Hong kong born welsh, embodies these new aspirations. Agoda has taken a highly ethical stance, which is also something resolutely modern and renewable materials. The first collection of agoda is centered on a seashell theme. Sick of how most designers are made to work in Asia, tom told his partners, {i do not want agoda collection to be inspired from any furniture designer or whatever design for that matter, although we could certainly recycle or reinvent a lot of things by using these fantastic material that are water hyacinth and rubber wood in a new fashion. No, no more copies please, I want to go back to the sources, where it all started} and it is how tom started to spend more time reading books on seashells that on furniture design! The seashell is the essence of comfort and protection, without the isolationist aspect of the cocoon. Partially freed from the constraints of gravity, mother nature has created fluid geometrical designs that could only be recreated above sea level by using highly flexible materials such as water hyacinth and rubber wood. The result is a collection of surprisingly asymmetrical pieces of furniture that convey a sense of physical and mental well-being. A call to go back to the source of oneself, a unsoiled place of pure creativity.
