Hamburg-Sued was founded in 1871 and forms part of the Oetker group of companies, one of the mayor German industrial groups with diversified activities in various fields such as the food industry, breweries, wine production, banking, insurance.

The group employs some 18,000 people worldwide and in 2001 had a turnover of 5,3 Billion $US. The shipping activity accounts for roughly 36% of the group's turnover.

Hamburg Sued is mainly a container carrier, but is also active in the fields of bulk shipping for both liquid and dry cargoes as well as conventional reefer.

As a container carrier, Hamburg Sued's main focus has traditionally been on South America so much so that we are the leading carriers in the trades between South America and respectively North Europe and the USA.

Our activities in the Asian and South African markets are rather new and have been on a limited scale up to now.

As we bought Kien Hung Line in April this year, the acquisition of the Kien Hung's activitie will boost our presence in these important market segments and will allow you to benefit of Hamburg Sued's recognized high quality standard of service and it's expertise, particularly in South America which we have build up over more than 100 years.
