Product Description

Interconnect Head: This field defines the head on the machine that inserts the component in the board. Whenever the component is requested by the product, the software looks at this field to know which head on the machine to fire.

Orientation in Head: This field defines the orientation of the component in the head. In some cases, components can be oriented in the insertion head only one way. If this orientation is not the same as 0° in the board, a value needs to be entered in this field to compensate. Use these guidelines to define this value.

Define what 0° means in the board. Then determine the orientation of the component in the insertion head compared to that 0° position in the board. Refer to the following table.

Polarization Considerations For Interconnect Components

Single-lead components (eyelets or pins) are polarized so that on multiple-head machines they can be inserted in the entire insertion area. For example, Head 1 cannot reach the location at the right of the board at 0° rotation. However, since the component is polarized, the board can be rotated to a position where the location can be reached by Head 1 by programming a theta value of 90° or 180° (90° shown in example at left).

Lead Info

A sample Lead Information data entry group is displayed.

Lead Diameter: The diameter of the lead.

Default Hole Span: (axial) The center to center distance between the insertion holes. This value represents the most common hole span for this component. The hole span can be changed for individual insertions in the Insertion List window.

Default Anvil Span Offset: (VS 8 only) Typically, this value is the same as the default hole span. However, if shorter or longer cut leads are required, a default anvil span offset can be defined. A positive value creates shorter leads and a negative value creates longer leads. For example, larger lead diameters may require longer leads, and smaller lead diameters may require shorter leads. The anvil span offset can be changed for individual insertions in the

Negative Value Lead Span: (Radial and Interconnect) The center to center distance between the insertion holes.

Number of Leads: (Radial and Interconnect) The number of leads on the component. Pins and eyelets are one-lead components.

Dispense Head Info

It is extremely important to know how polarized components are positioned in the verifier contacts. This is determined by how the component is loaded into the dispense head. In turn, this determines the orientation of the component in the board.

A sample Dispense Head Information data entry group for a Radial component is displayed.
