Grinding steel balls like forged steel grinding balls are used to assist in the extraction process for many metals such as gold, copper, lead, zinc, iron, nickel, tin, chrome and silver. In addition to metalliferous processing, balls are used for grinding coal in power stations, lime and clinker in the cement industries and base materials in the building products industry.
